This area in Cygnus is often overlooked because of its prominent
neighborhood: NGC 7000, the North American
Nebula, is located immediately to the southwest, just outside the field of
this photograph. Besides a lot of nicely-colored stars of the Milky Way, there
are some perceivable deep-sky objects in this area:
- Barnard 361 is the large dark nebula located to the left of the image's center.
- IC 1369 is a galactic star cluster with a size of 5' and a magnitude of 8.8, located above and slighty to the right of B361. Its distance to earth is given as 6,700 light years.
- LDN 974/966/963/960/959: This chain of dark nebula extends from IC 1369 southwest, the highest contrast has small LDN 963 just right of the image's center.
- Sh1-89 = PK 089.8-00.6, a planetary nebula which has a core diameter of about 0.5', a small red double-spot above and slighty to the left of B361.
