The Milky Way in Cygnus - Wide-Angle View

Cygnus, 28mm>

  <div class=

This photograph shows a wide stretch of the Summer Milky Way and contains numerous constellations; most prominent is Cygnus at the center. The wide-angle photograph also shows the summer triangle, which is composed of the bright stars Vega (on top), Deneb (left of the center) and Altair (right edge). The area contains innumerable multi-colored stars, which form star clouds along the Milky Way, large emission nebulae (red), and dark nebulae (seen as dark lanes in the Milky Way).

Such an awesome view of the Milky Way is only possible under excellent conditions under a very dark sky far from any man-made light pollution, conditons which were given at the Glockner-Hochalpenstraße in September 2003, where I took this photograph.
